Carbon offsetting has become the new buzzword today, and every firm
that is worth its money is declaring to go the carbon neutral way. So
what is Carbon Offsetting all about? To put it simply, when an
individual or a firm emits CO2 into the environment, it decides to plant
a few trees, or to set up a solar power plant, or
recycle waste paper thereby neutralising the
effect of the carbon emission. This is Carbon Offsetting as the carbon
that is emitted is offset by some other means.

So basically, the concept is – you drive your fuel guzzling car though
the city, and then you go ahead and plant a few tress to make up for the
carbon emission that you were responsible for – thereby wiping your
carbon footprint.
There are a number of Carbon Offsetting Companies from where a firm can
buy carbon credits. Today many industries have begun to go the
environment conscious way and are trying to keep themselves carbon
neutral so that no further damage is done to nature. Airlines are one of
the biggest contributors to the overall carbon emission in the
environment. This is why, some of the major airlines have begun to make
huge efforts to reduce the carbon emission, through various means – be
it by using better technology or by reducing the overall weight that the
aircraft carries.

Given the situation that the world is in today, it is extremely
important that each and every individual does his/her bit to reduce the
overall emission of greenhouse gases into the air. We need to
reduce the
carbon footprint (measured in tonnes) that each person leaves behind,
thereby contributing to a greener and safer future. |
